Wedding in Greece on Crete

Crete is the largest and southernmost Greek island. It spreads over an area of 8,259 km2 between three continents – Europe, Asia and Africa. From the west to the east of the island you will cover 260 km by land. The island is about 60 km wide. In the west of the island the Lefka Ori mountains climb to almost 2,500 m above sea level, in the middle lie the Idi mountains and in the east the Dikti. Crete is probably the most varied island in Greece. Here you will find a wild coastline, long sweeping beaches, high mountains, the long walkable Samaria Gorge, or picturesque bays with fishing settlements and hard-to-reach villages in the mountains. Crete and its palace complex of Knossos in Heraklion represent an important centre of the ancient Minoan culture. This island will quite simply never cease to inspire you.

The island is divided into four regional units: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lassithi.

Crete is a byword for beautiful beaches, historic sites, amazing natural scenery and varied entertainment. On Crete there is something for everyone.

Crete can be reached by air; the flight time from Prague is 2 hours and 30 minutes. The direct distance Prague – Heraklion is 2,250 km, Prague – Chania 2,100 km. The island has a reliable bus service, and you can also hire a bicycle, a moped or a car.

The weather on the island of Crete is typically Mediterranean. The summer weather is warm and almost without rainfall; in the south, along the coast of the Libyan Sea, it can be said to be downright hot. Winters are mild, with snow in the mountain areas and rain in the lowlands, yet still offering plenty of sunny days. In winter and in the spring months Crete is, thanks to the high temperatures, ample rainfall and high humidity, one of the greenest islands in the Mediterranean. Because Crete is very mountainous, changes in the weather can be very sudden. In any case, though, it holds true that in summer the weather is almost always sunny, it does not rain, and both the air and sea temperatures are high enough for a pleasant holiday. Because every visitor is different and the variety of Crete and its weather is great, it is impossible to say when Crete is at its best. Crete always has something for everyone …
