Wedding in the Maldives

The beautiful beaches of the small islands scattered across the waters of the Indian Ocean offer ideal conditions for a romantic holiday. You can choose between luxurious hotels set on their own islands, where you are guaranteed never to come across a crowded beach.

The Maldives are an island state in southern Asia in the Indian Ocean. They are formed by a chain of coral atolls beginning 500 km south-west of the shores of India and stretching roughly 800 km from north to south. There are approximately 1,200 coral islands and islets here and a large number of underwater reefs. Approximately 200 islands are inhabited. The Maldives are listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the flattest country in the world (no place lies more than 2.5 m above sea level).

There are no conventional hotels in the Maldives, only resorts with beach and water villas, which gives visitors genuine privacy. Maldivians are very friendly and hospitable towards tourists. The islands are an ideal place not only for rest and relaxation, but there are also many opportunities for an active holiday. Lovers of the underwater world in particular will get their money’s worth here, because diving and snorkelling are truly exceptional. Just a few metres from the shore, shoals of colourful coral fish dart about – more than three quarters of all species of coral fish occur here.

The Maldives can be reached by air; the flight time from Prague is approx. 10 hours.

The weather in the Maldives is pleasantly warm all year round. The climate of the Maldives, determined by their position on the equator, is tropically warm throughout the year with steady temperatures averaging from 27 to 30 °C. Humidity is relatively high and the summer monsoon winds bring light rainfall from May to September. During the winter period from November to April, brief tropical showers occur from time to time.

No vaccination is required before travelling to the Maldives. Tourists arriving in the Maldives are granted a 30-day tourist visa at the airport on arrival. The condition is a valid passport with a further 6 months of validity after the return from the Maldives.

Vaccination is not compulsory. We recommend bringing medicines for fever and intestinal problems. As in all tropical regions, we recommend drinking plenty of fluids.

The time difference is convenient: +4 hours in winter time and +3 hours in summer time.
